Noti Custom / Discovery
01 — Discovery

A paid day inside your operation.

Before anyone builds anything, I come and watch how the work actually happens. You leave with a written Systems Roadmap that you own, whether or not you ever hire me again.

Why it's paid

Because a free one would not be honest.

A free look is a sales call.

Most people in this trade give away the looking in order to sell you the building. That gets you a proposal shaped around what they like to build, and you pay for the looking anyway, inside the build price.

I do it the other way around. The day is paid, so the work is real and the findings are yours. If it turns out you do not need a custom system, the roadmap will say so. That is a legitimate outcome, and it happens.

If you do go ahead, the Discovery fee comes off the build.

The looking and the shaping isn't a step before the work. It is the work.

Why Discovery is paid
What happens

Three parts, one day on site.

Before

Learn the basics

I read up on the business first. What you make or do, who you serve, what you already run on. The day should not be spent on things I could have found out beforehand.

On the day

Watch the work happen

I spend the day where the work is. I follow a job end to end, talk to the people doing it, look at the spreadsheets and systems in use, and ask why things happen the way they do.

Afterwards

The Systems Roadmap

A written document: what I saw, what it is costing, and what I would do about it, in the order I would do it. Yours to keep.

What I'm looking for

Eleven things, in every operation, every time.

The friction is nearly always in the same places.

Different industries, same failure modes. This is the list I work through:

  • Manual checks somebody has to remember to do.
  • Repeated data entry, the same number typed twice.
  • Bottlenecks where work piles up waiting on one person.
  • Information gaps between two systems that do not talk.
  • Delays between something happening and anyone knowing.
  • Steps that depend on memory rather than a process.
  • Disconnected systems holding their own version of the truth.
  • Workarounds that have quietly become the process.
  • Administration that exists only to move information around.
  • Single points of failure, usually a person.
  • Problems that are only discovered too late to act on.
The deliverable

A document, not a slide deck.

The Systems Roadmap.

Plain language, no jargon, written so anyone in your business can read it. It sets out:

  • What I observed. Where information stops moving, and what that costs you in time, money or risk.
  • What to fix first. Ranked by what it is costing you, not by what is interesting to build.
  • What to do about each one. Sometimes a build. Sometimes a process change. Sometimes software you already pay for, used properly.
  • What it would take. Rough effort and sequence, so you can plan around it.
  • What to leave alone. The parts that are working fine and should not be touched.

You own the roadmap. There is no obligation to have Noti build any of it. Take it to someone else if you like. It is your business and your document.

The number

The one figure I can give you before I have seen the place.

A Discovery day is $1,000 plus GST.

That is the day on site and the written Systems Roadmap that follows it. It covers greater Sydney. Further out, travel and accommodation are quoted on top at cost, and you see that number before you agree to anything.

It is credited in full against the first build, if you sign one within six months. So if you go ahead, the day costs you nothing. If you do not, you still keep a roadmap you own and can take to anyone.

After Discovery there are two more stages, and both are quoted from what the roadmap actually found: a fixed-price first build, then a simple month-to-month partnership for hosting, support and refinements.

How the money works →
Ready when you are

Start with a look at how you actually run.

A free chat first. If a Discovery day makes sense after that, I will say so, and if it does not, I will tell you that instead.
